Assisted Suicide, Stephen Hawking & One's Own Experience

Just been reading an article on the BBC website about a science boffin called Stephen Hawking who thinks that helping people to kill themselves is morally acceptable. This is more commonly known as 'Assisted Suicide'

Hawking was partially spurned to write this as his own condition is not all that tickety-boo from having sat idly in a chair all his life. One is not too happy-go-lucky about this subject feeling that life is for living and that any chance a person has of keeping hold of it should be embraced and all that sort of thing.

Some on the other hand positively embrace it and think it is a good idea! Poppycock! It's not a good idea! It's a terrible idea and I'll tell you why. The reason is that you could get arrested and thrown in the chokey if you are caught assisting someone pop their clogs!

For instance, one tried this very thing many years ago with the one of the mother-in-laws while the bedragglehorn was in a hospital. One could see that she was suffering and felt that one had at least to entertain the idea that she may need assistance to kick the bucket before she'd got over the pain and searing agony.

With this in mind One tentatively spoke to the duty doctor asking if he could assist me in finishing her off but he point blank refused saying that it was not necessary and would be a waste of his time. I then enquired about how much his time would cost and pointed out that a lethal injection wouldn't have been beyond my budgetary constraints... in her interests of course.

It was at this point that this doctor threatened to call the police and have me arrested. When one asked why, the doctor pointed out that the mother-in-law in question had been admitted to hospital to have a toenail removed and that there was no question of her life being in danger.

So much for his assistance in helping me to get her to commit suicide.
